Privacy Policy

Last updated July 16, 2026

This Privacy Policy is laid out to inform you about how Battle for the Hill may collect and process information that relates to you, how we aim to protect your information, your rights and how you can exercise those with us.

If you have any additional questions or require more information about our Privacy Policy, do not hesitate to contact us.

This Privacy Policy applies only to our online activities and is valid for visitors to our website with regards to the information that they shared and/or collect in battleforthehill.com. This policy is not applicable to any information collected offline or via channels other than this website.

Consent

By using our website, you hereby consent to our Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.

Information we collect

The personal information that you are asked to provide, and the reasons why you are asked to provide it, will be made clear to you at the point we ask you to provide your personal information.

If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you such as your name, email address, the contents of the message and/or attachments you may send us, and any other information you may choose to provide.

When you register for and use an Account, we may collect and store:

  • Account details such as your email address, username, and password (passwords are stored in a hashed form).
  • Content you create in the game, such as politician and party names, messages, posts, comments, and profile information (including profile images uploaded by supporters).
  • Gameplay and account state, such as offices held, votes cast, and other in-game activity tied to your account.
  • Technical and security data, such as IP addresses, session data, browser and device information, and records used to detect duplicate or abusive accounts.
  • Moderation records, such as warnings, mutes, suspensions, bans, and related notes.

Linked accounts and supporter services

Some features rely on connecting third-party accounts. These connections are optional, but certain features will not work without them.

  • Discord: If you link your Discord account, we store your Discord ID and username so you can verify your account and use our Discord bot. You can unlink your Discord account at any time from your settings.
  • Steam: If you link your Steam account through Steam OpenID, we store your Steam ID and the date it was linked so you can sign in and play without separate verification and so we can record in-game achievements. You can unlink your Steam account from your settings, subject to keeping another valid login method.
  • Ko-fi: If you receive Ko-fi supporter benefits, we may store your Ko-fi username, supporter tier, related status and timestamps, and information needed to provide and verify those benefits. We do not store your full payment card details; payments are handled by Ko-fi or its payment providers.

When you link or use one of these services, that provider may share limited profile or supporter information with us in accordance with its own terms and privacy policy. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of Discord, Steam, and Ko-fi.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect in various ways, including to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our website and the game
  • Create and secure your account, and verify your identity through linked services
  • Improve, personalize, and expand our website
  • Understand and analyze how you use our website
  • Develop new products, services, features, and functionality
  • Enable community features, such as our Discord bot, Steam achievements, and supporter perks
  • Enforce our Terms and Conditions and Game Rules, moderate the community, and detect duplicate or abusive accounts
  • Communicate with you, either directly or through one of our partners, including for customer service, to provide you with updates and other information relating to the website, and for marketing and promotional purposes
  • Send you emails
  • Find and prevent fraud

How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to operate the game and community, including with:

  • Service providers who host our site, store data, or send email on our behalf.
  • Third-party platforms you choose to connect or use, such as Discord, Steam, and Ko-fi, to enable the related features.
  • Law enforcement or other parties where we believe it is necessary to comply with the law, enforce our agreements, or protect the safety, rights, or property of our players, our staff, or the public.

Log Files

battleforthehill.com follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and it is a part of hosting services' analytics. The information collected by log files includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. The purpose of this information is analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users' movement on the website, gathering demographic information, and helping to secure accounts and detect abuse. Some of this information, such as an IP address associated with a logged-in account, can be linked to your account and used for security and moderation purposes.

Data Retention

We keep your account information and the game data tied to it for as long as your account exists. Because player activity is woven into shared game records, individual accounts and their data are generally removed together when we reset the game or its underlying systems, as described in our Terms and Conditions. Log data, backups, and moderation records may be kept for a limited period for security, troubleshooting, and enforcement purposes, and backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.

Cookies and Web Beacons

Like any other website, battleforthehill.com uses 'cookies'. These cookies are used to store information including visitors' preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize the users' experience by customizing our web page content based on visitors' browser type and/or other information.

For more general information on cookies, please read "What Are Cookies" from Cookie Consent.

Third Party Privacy Policies

battleforthehill.com's Privacy Policy does not apply to other advertisers or websites. Thus, we are advising you to consult the respective Privacy Policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information. It may include their practices and instructions about how to opt-out of certain options.

You can choose to disable cookies through your individual browser options. To know more detailed information about cookie management with specific web browsers, it can be found at the browsers' respective websites.

California Online Privacy Protection (CalOPPA)

According to CalOPPA we agree to the following:

  • Users can visit our site anonymously.
  • Once this privacy policy is created, we will add a link to it on our home page or as a minimum on the first significant page after entering our website.
  • Our Privacy Policy link includes the word 'Privacy' and can be easily be found on the page specified above.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Per the GDPR, European Union (EU) citizens have the following rights:

  • The right to access - You have the right to request copies of your personal data. We may charge you a small fee for this service.
  • The right to rectification - You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request that we complete the information you believe is incomplete.
  • The right to erasure - You have the right to request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to restrict processing - You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to object to processing - You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to data portability - You have the right to request that we transfer the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.

If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you. If you would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us.

Please note that, because of the shared and interconnected nature of game data, we may not be able to delete every record tied to your account in isolation without disrupting the game for other players. Where full deletion outside of a game reset is not feasible, we will honor your request as closely as we reasonably can, such as by disconnecting linked accounts (for example, Discord or Steam) and removing or anonymizing personal identifiers where possible, and retaining the remaining game state until the next reset.

Children's Information

The game is not intended for individuals under the age of 13.

One of our priorities is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.

battleforthehill.com does not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will do our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.

Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.
